The most important thing on a ski club's website is which winter it is
Everything else on a nordic site can be a year old without hurting anybody. The season, the fee table and the date the price goes up cannot. This page is about the one part of a small club's site that has to be right in July.

On the society's live site the home page still announces that winter season 2025/26 registration is open, and the fee table still prices an early-bird cutoff of 8 December 2025. Both were correct when they were written. Neither is useful to a family deciding, in the summer, whether to buy a membership for the winter ahead.
This is not a criticism of anyone. It is what happens to every volunteer-run site where the season is typed into the page instead of stored once and printed everywhere. The fix is structural, and it is small.

A ski club site is only as current as the date on its fee table
The fees the society publishes are labelled with two calendar dates and nothing else: Until December 8, 2025 and December 9, 2025 and After. Which winter they belong to is not stated anywhere. The counter to the left is simple arithmetic on that first date, worked out fresh in your browser every time this page loads.

A Cross Country BC fee of $19 per skier is charged in addition to a ski membership. Whether it also applies to a snowshoe membership is not stated.
How it would work
Four fields, edited once a year, printed in twenty places
On this concept every season-dependent word and number comes from a single record. The fee tables read from it, the banner on the home page reads from it, the counter above reads from it, and the caveat in the footer reads from it. Whoever sets next winter's fees changes it once.

Season label
The one thing the current site is missing. A season named in words — not two bare calendar dates — printed at the top of every fee table.

Cutoff date
Today that is 8 December 2025. It appears in six places on this concept and is stored in exactly one.

Six fees
Four ski categories and two snowshoe categories, each with an early and a later figure. Twelve numbers, one file.

Cross Country BC fee
Currently $19 per skier, charged on top of a ski membership. It changes rarely, which is exactly why it gets forgotten.
And one thing the site can do by itself
A site that knows its own cutoff date knows when that date has gone by. It can stop showing an early-bird price as though it were still available, and it can say so in plain language instead of leaving a visitor to do the arithmetic. The counter on this page is the smallest possible demonstration of that: nobody edits it, and it has never been wrong.
A note from JnP
None of this is a complaint about the current site
A society that keeps 57 kilometres groomed, 114 more open, 17 kilometres of snowshoe trail, a canine trail and 6.4 kilometres of lights running is not short of work. Website maintenance is the thing that slips, and it slips everywhere, in every volunteer organisation, every single year.
What this concept argues is only that the slipping should be cheap to undo. If updating a season is one field rather than a hunt through six pages, it gets done in an evening in September instead of in February. That is the whole idea.
